Agriturismo sull'Etna

The farm is located at Mascalucia on the slopes of Mount Etna, not far from the old town centre. Mascalucia, with its seventeenth-century churches, is a very fascinating Etnean village. The rural buildings, recently restored and well equipped, date back to 1609 and include the manor, the stable, the millstone, the cellar, as well as a big cistern in which rainwater is stored in the roof, still equipped with an ancient clay piping-system. 2000 years ago a Roman settlement rose on this 450-mt high hill, which is now covered with lava and by a unique 3-ha wide botanical garden full of Mediterranean and exotic plants. A biological mandarin grove and two vegetable gardens are the cultivations of this estate, which is still irrigated with the traditional so-called "saje", an Arab word indicating handmade piping through which water flows. In the farm guests can spend pleasant week-ends or entire weeks, lodging in the flats – all equipped with a kitchenette – inside the rural buildings. The refined menus are inspired by real recipes of the Sicilian cuisine and are composed mainly by vegetables, citrus fruits, garden herbs and spices giving a special taste to every dish. Guests can pick directly from the tree a lot of different fruits: citrus fruits, prickly pears, persimmons, walnuts, chestnuts as well as summer fruits.

At the farm the following products are sold: DOC Etnean red wine, which is really a source of pride for the owners; marmalade made from biological citrus fruits; orange-blossom honey; extra-virgin olive oil with a refined and fruity taste; tomato puree and vegetables in oil.

You can opt to pay for breakfast and dinner, which are served in the main building. The host and his wife organize cooking courses and are glad to let you taste their homemade wine. On the property you can also find a jeu-de-boules yard, a playground for your children and a botanical garden. Very close to the property you can find a pizzeria and the shopping streets of Mascalucia.
